Abu Dhabi Crown Prince pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by laying a wreath at Rajghat during his visit to India on Monday. The Crown Prince also signed the visitors’ book as part of the solemn ceremony.

The visit to Rajghat came after a meeting between Sheikh Khaled and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the two leaders discussed the broad scope of relations between India and the UAE. Following the meeting, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on X (formerly Twitter), “India-UAE ties taking greater strides! PM @narendramodi met with HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi today. The two leaders discussed the multifaceted India – UAE relations and avenues to broaden the comprehensive strategic partnership to new and emerging areas.”

The meeting at Hyderabad House included key officials from both sides, including Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and Piyush Goyal, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The interaction between PM Modi and Sheikh Khaled was marked by a warm embrace, followed by handshakes and discussions on enhancing bilateral ties.

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in New Delhi on September 8, marking his first official visit to India. Upon arrival, he was greeted by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, who also accompanied him through a ceremonial welcome in the capital. MEA spokesperson Jaiswal said in a post on X, writing, “A new milestone in a historic relationship. His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Delhi on his first official visit to India. Warmly received by @CimGOI @piyushgoyal and accorded a ceremonial welcome.”

During his two-day visit, Sheikh Khaled is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and will participate in a Business Forum in Mumbai, engaging with business leaders from both countries on September 10.

India and the UAE have long shared close and friendly ties, which have grown significantly in recent years. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations has expanded across political, trade, investment, connectivity, energy, technology, education, and cultural sectors. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that the Crown Prince’s visit is expected to deepen these ties further and pave the way for new collaborations in emerging areas.

Earlier this year, in February, Prime Minister Modi visited the UAE and held discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During that visit, both leaders witnessed the signing of eight bilateral agreements, further strengthening the partnership between India and the UAE.
