Actor Noor Malabika Das was found dead in her apartment in Andheri, Mumbai, the police reported on Monday. They suspect it to be a case of suicide.

The body of the actor, known for her roles in several web series, was discovered in a decomposed state at her residence in the Oshiwara area. Das had co-starred with Kajol in the 2023 legal drama “The Trial.”

Originating from Assam, Das had previously worked as an air hostess. On June 8, neighbors reported a foul smell emanating from her apartment, prompting them to notify the police.

Upon arrival, the police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

An officer from Mumbai’s Oshiwara Police stated that an Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been filed and further investigation is underway.

The All Indian Cine Workers Association expressed concern over the increasing instances of suicide within the Bollywood and broader Indian film industry. The Association has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging a thorough investigation into this case.

“This unfortunate incident underscores a serious issue within the Bollywood and broader Indian film industry, where reports of suicides among actors and actresses are alarmingly frequent. The government must investigate the underlying causes behind these recurring tragedies,” the statement read.

The Association also emphasized the importance of considering the possibility of foul play, suggesting that the investigation should explore the case from a potential murder angle.
