AI adoption can unleash Rs 33.8 lakh crore of economic benefit to India by 2030: Google report

Google’s new report on artificial intelligence (AI) emphasizes responsible AI development and provides recommendations for policymakers, companies, and civil society.

The report, titled “An AI Opportunity Agenda for India”, outlines how artificial intelligence can drive economic growth, social progress, and global leadership for the nation.

According to the report, India—with its rapidly growing economy, outstanding tech talent, youthful population, and vibrant startup ecosystem—is poised to reap significant benefits from artificial intelligence. A comprehensive and responsible approach to AI could unlock substantial economic growth and societal progress in India.

“The potential economic impact of AI in India is immense—reports estimate that AI adoption could generate at least INR 33.8 lakh crore of economic value by 2030. While these achievements signal a promising start, unlocking AI’s full potential depends on the strategic decisions we make today,” said a press release from Google.

The report suggests that maximizing AI’s opportunities in India will require collaborative efforts across government, industry, and civil society. It highlights three key priority areas: investing in infrastructure and innovation, building human capital and an AI-ready workforce, and promoting widespread adoption and universal accessibility.

AI is already addressing some of India’s most pressing challenges, including revolutionizing farming practices and improving healthcare access. In the agriculture sector, AI is helping minimize climate risks, optimize productivity and sustainability, and provide access to real-time crop pricing information and early warnings of potential crop threats. Many AI-powered platforms are enabling farmers to increase crop yields and adopt sustainable practices.

In healthcare, AI is being used for better diagnostics, wider access, and personalized care, especially for underserved communities. Google has partnered with ARMMAN to use AI to identify women at risk of dropping out of health information programs, allowing for personalized interventions that improve maternal health outcomes.

ARMMAN aims to address the systemic issues contributing to maternal and child mortality and morbidity in India.
