Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, on Tuesday said that AI-driven translation tools are revolutionizing the dissemination and interpretation of Hindi content, helping scientific knowledge reach a broader audience across India. He was addressing the first meeting of the Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Science and Technology, held in New Delhi.
Singh, who also holds portfolios in the Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy, and Department of Space, emphasized that the use of Hindi across all Ministries and Departments is essential, as it represents India’s cultural identity and a unifying medium of communication.
Highlighting the growing adoption of Hindi, especially among employees from southern India, the Minister said, “Hindi is increasingly emerging as a pan-Indian language of communication.” He underscored the need to integrate Hindi with modern technology, ensuring that the language keeps pace with scientific and technological progress.
“The integration of artificial intelligence in translation is enabling faster and more accurate interpretation of Hindi content. It is helping bridge linguistic barriers in science communication and allowing information to reach citizens in a more meaningful way,” Singh noted.
He stressed that all Ministry websites must be equally accessible in Hindi so that scientific information and updates are available to people in their preferred language. The Minister also announced that officials and employees demonstrating excellence in the use of Hindi will be recognized and awarded by the Ministry to encourage wider adoption.
Singh further highlighted that promoting Hindi should go hand in hand with nurturing regional languages, as India’s scientific and technological growth must reflect its linguistic diversity. “Hindi and regional languages together can serve as powerful vehicles for innovation, communication, and nation-building,” he added.
He also pointed out that the University Grants Commission (UGC) is providing Hindi-based tools and resources for employees, thereby strengthening the use of Hindi in academic and scientific domains. The Minister urged all Ministries to increase the use of Hindi in official work to reinforce its position nationwide.
During the meeting, members of the Hindi Advisory Committee suggested expanding the use of Hindi in departmental proceedings and increasing the dissemination of scientific content in Hindi to promote accessibility. They also recommended leveraging social media platforms to popularize Hindi and recognize employees contributing actively to its promotion.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST); Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT); Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO, ANRF, and other senior officers from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Singh concluded that the fusion of language and technology represents a new chapter in India’s scientific communication, where Hindi and regional languages—empowered by AI innovation—can make science more inclusive, participatory, and people-centric.
