AI should be harnessed for the common good and progress,” says Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar at AI Summit 2023

Addressing the world's first global summit on Artificial Intelligence in the UK on Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, stressed the importance of utilizing artificial intelligence for the betterment of society and global progress.

Chandrasekhar called for a collaborative effort among nations to shape the future of technology, highlighting the need for a collective approach rather than the dominance of a few.

He underlined India's successful adoption of technology, which has propelled the nation into a flourishing digital economy, greatly improving the lives of its citizens. Chandrasekhar emphasized that this transformation has opened up significant opportunities, particularly through AI. He also said that AI is a dynamic catalyst for India's rapidly expanding digital economy, growth, and governance. He described AI as a source of significant potential for India, with a clear focus on ensuring safety, trust, accountability, and openness in its implementation.

The UK is currently hosting the AI Safety Summit 2023 at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire, a historic site with significant contributions to the field of computer science and once home to British Enigma codebreaking efforts. The two-day summit has gathered international governments, leading AI companies, civil society groups, and research experts to assess the potential risks associated with AI, especially in its cutting-edge developments, and to explore methods for mitigating these risks through international cooperation.
