The 10th batch of over 7,800 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims left the Jammu base camp in the early hours of July 12, for the twin base camps in Kashmir amid tight security arrangements, officials said. The yatra resumed from the Jammu base camp on July 11, afternoon after remaining suspended for three days in view of the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for repairs in the Ramban section. A total of 1,37,353 pilgrims have visited the Amarnath shrine since July 1, the officials said.
The 62-day annual pilgrimage to the 3,888-metre-high cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas commenced from the twin tracks of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district on July 1. The yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 31.
New batches of yatries continue come and pay obeisance at Shri Amarnathji Holy Cave. All the base camps remained abuzz with yatris as 18,137 yatries performed darshan including 12459 males, 5028 females, 470 children, 176 Sadhus and 01 Sadhvi besides 03 Transgenders. The total number of pilgrims who visited the shrine from July 1st to till date is 1,37,353.
The yatris were seen happy with the arrangements by the administration enroute to twin axis of yatra and also appreciated the hospitality of the people. The administration had been proactive to maintain sanitation of treks and base camps to ensure clean and waste free pilgrimage.
Many efforts are being laid under Swachh Bharat and Swachh teerath programmes to maintain pollution & waste free cordial environment. Besides, Special sanitation drives were carried out on Yatra routes to collect waste. The weather department here on Wednesday forecast mainly dry weather with possibility of isolated light rain and thunderstorm till July 14, even the minimum temperatures fluctuating at places in Jammu and Kashmir.
A meteorological department official here said that intermittent light to moderate rain was expected at many places of J&K from July 15-17. Regarding the minimum temperature, the official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 16.8 degree Celcius against 16.4 degree celcious on the previous night and it was 1.3 degree celcious below normal for the summer capital, reported HS.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 14.5 degree celcious against 16.0 degree celcious on the previous night and it was 2.0 degree celcious below normal for the gateway town of the Kashmir Valley. Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 10.6 degree celcious against 10.7 degree celcious on the previous night.
