Senior BJP leader Amit Shah took charge as the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation on Tuesday, marking his second consecutive term at the helm of the crucial Home Ministry.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reposing his trust, Shah said in a post on X, “Gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodiJi for reposing trust and reassigning me the roles of Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Cooperation.”
“In Modi 3.0, the MHA will continue to accelerate and strengthen security initiatives and introduce new approaches to realize PM Modi’s vision of a secure Bharat.” On the Ministry of Cooperation, he added, “Under the astute leadership of Modi Ji, the Ministry of Cooperation will remain committed to empowering farmers and villages with the vision of ‘Sahakaar Se Samriddhi’,” Shah said.
Shah, a trusted confidante of PM Modi and the BJP’s key strategist, served as the Union Home Minister in the previous Modi government as well. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, aimed at granting citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighboring countries.
In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Shah secured a resounding victory from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar seat, garnering 10,10,972 votes and defeating Congress candidate Sonal Patel by a massive margin of 7,44,716 votes. This seat has previously been held by BJP veterans like L.K. Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
