Amit Shah directs states to identify Pakistani nationals, ensure their return

A day after India revoked all visas issued to Pakistani nationals following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday spoke with Chief Ministers across the country, directing them to identify Pakistani nationals residing in their respective states.

According to sources cited by ANI, Shah has instructed state governments to take necessary steps to ensure the prompt return of these individuals to Pakistan.

Later this evening, the Home Minister is also scheduled to chair a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review the Indus Waters Treaty. Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil and other senior government officials are expected to attend the meeting.

In the wake of the terror attack, the central government announced a series of diplomatic measures, including the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals—who were given 40 hours to return—and a downsizing of diplomatic staff in both countries’ High Commissions.
