Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on being conferred Oman’s highest civilian honour, “The First Class of the Order of Oman.”
In a post on X, the Home Minister said the honour was a recognition of Prime Minister Modi’s global leadership and statesmanship.
“Oman’s highest civilian honour, ‘The First Class of the Order of Oman’, being conferred on PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji is a grand endorsement of his statesmanship and his acceptance as a global leader. The back-to-back honours to our Prime Minister Modi Ji attest to the power of 140 crore Indians and the emergence of India as a transformed nation under his leadership,” Shah said.
This is the 29th international civilian honour conferred on Prime Minister Modi.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Modi was also conferred Ethiopia’s highest civilian award, the ‘Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia’, by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at a special ceremony held at the Addis International Convention Centre. The award was presented in recognition of Prime Minister Modi’s exceptional contribution to strengthening bilateral ties and his role as a global statesman.
Prime Minister Modi had expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the people of Ethiopia for the honour.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi met Oman’s Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik in Muscat, where the two leaders discussed ways to further deepen the India–Oman strategic partnership. Both leaders also witnessed the exchange of key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements.
The two sides welcomed the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), describing it as a milestone in bilateral relations and expressing confidence that it would further strengthen the strategic partnership. Regional and global issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other senior officials attended the meeting held at Al Baraka Palace in Muscat.
Noting the completion of 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the partnership is rooted in shared maritime heritage and common destiny. He added that both leaders explored avenues to further expand cooperation across sectors.
