Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will inaugurate and lay the foundation for multiple dairy infrastructure and cooperative initiatives in Ladakh on May 1, aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods and boosting the dairy sector in the Union Territory.
The programme will be held at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, in the presence of Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena.
As part of the initiative, the Union Minister will lay the foundation stone of a 10 tonnes per day dairy plant at Kargil and inaugurate new dairy processing units in Leh, including facilities for curd and paneer production. A Bulk Milk Cooler system will also be launched to strengthen milk storage and transportation infrastructure.
The event will also see the launch of an Android-based Automated Milk Collection System (AMCS) application aimed at improving procurement efficiency and ensuring transparency in payments to dairy farmers.
In addition, a mobile milk testing laboratory will be flagged off to enhance quality assurance and provide support to farmers at the grassroots level. A Memorandum of Understanding will also be signed among stakeholders to improve marketing and branding of dairy products, helping local producers gain better market access.
Progressive dairy farmers from the region will be felicitated during the programme as part of efforts to encourage cooperative-led development.
