Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Tamil Nadu in the next two days, state BJP president K Annamalai announced on Tuesday, hinting at potential political shifts in the state.
“Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Tamil Nadu in two days. A lot of changes may take place,” Annamalai said.
The visit comes at a time when tensions are escalating between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the BJP-led Centre over the three-language policy and the contentious delimitation process.
Last month, during a BJP event in Coimbatore, Shah assured that southern states would not be negatively impacted by the delimitation exercise. However, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has called for an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the issue, expressing concerns that seat redistribution based on population could reduce the number of Lok Sabha seats allocated to southern states.
In response, the BJP has decided to boycott the meeting, accusing Stalin of spreading “imaginary fears” and misrepresenting the delimitation process.
Speaking in Chennai, Annamalai criticized the all-party meeting, calling it “pointless” and without a clear agenda.
“Even when you attend a wedding, you know who is getting married. But here, the Tamil Nadu CM has called an all-party meeting based on imaginary fears. He is not addressing real issues affecting common people,” Annamalai said.
He reiterated that neither the Centre nor Amit Shah has linked delimitation to population size, dismissing Stalin’s claim that Tamil Nadu could lose 12 Lok Sabha seats.
“Amit Shah has clearly stated that delimitation will be done on a pro-rata basis, not based on population like the Congress model. Despite these clarifications, the Tamil Nadu CM continues to mislead people. Why should we waste our time attending such a meeting?” Annamalai added.
