APEDA, Tripura government organise international organic buyer-seller meet to expand global market linkages

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency (TSOFDA) and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, organised an International Organic Buyer-Seller Meet in Agartala to connect the state’s organic producers with global markets.

The event brought together around 200 participants, including more than 20 international buyers from Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Greece and Argentina, along with 27 exporters, 96 farmers representing 22 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), and government officials.

The meet provided a platform for farmers, producer organisations, exporters, government stakeholders and international buyers to discuss sourcing opportunities, market requirements and potential business partnerships.

Twelve stalls showcased Tripura’s range of organic and naturally produced products, including Queen Pineapple, GI-tagged Kalikhasa Rice, organic ginger and turmeric, black sesame, jackfruit and scented lemon, among other products.

The stalls enabled international buyers to interact directly with producers, explore the state’s agricultural offerings and discuss potential sourcing and business opportunities.

The event was attended by Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Agriculture and Horticulture Secretary Apurba Roy, IFOAM Organics Asia Executive Director Jennifer Chang and senior APEDA officials.

Nath welcomed the initiative to promote Tripura’s organic products in international markets and stressed the importance of strengthening market linkages for farmers and producer groups.

“Tripura’s farmers are producing quality organic products with strong potential in domestic and international markets. Connecting our farmers and FPOs directly with international buyers can create new opportunities for better market access and income generation,” Nath said.

“The Government of Tripura will continue to support initiatives that strengthen organic farming and enable our farmers to benefit from emerging global opportunities,” he added.

Organic farmers were also felicitated by the agriculture minister in recognition of their contribution to the state’s organic farming movement and sustainable agricultural value chains.

The buyer-seller meet is expected to generate new commercial linkages, encourage long-term sourcing partnerships and improve market access and income opportunities for farmers.

APEDA continues to work with state governments, FPOs, exporters and other stakeholders to strengthen India’s organic export ecosystem through certification support, capacity building, infrastructure development, market promotion and international buyer linkages.

The initiative in Tripura is part of efforts to expand the global presence of Indian organic products and create sustainable market opportunities for farmers in the North Eastern Region.
