Apple warns iPhone users in 92 countries of potential spyware attacks

Apple sent notifications to individuals in 92 countries, alerting them that they may have been targeted by mercenary spyware attacks on their iPhones, according to a report by TechCrunch.

The notification sent by Apple reads, “Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-.”

The alert goes on to state that, “this attack is likely targeting you specifically because of who you are or what you do. Although it’s never possible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting such attacks, Apple has high confidence in this warning please take it seriously,” the alert continued.

Apple explained that it could not provide any additional information about the incident due to concerns that such details could help attackers avoid future detection. The company relies on its internal information and investigations to identify these types of attacks.

Spyware attacks can allow attackers to remotely access a device’s camera, microphone, and other sensitive data, posing a significant risk to the privacy and security of affected users.
