ASEAN discusses global geo-strategy and geo-economics impacts

The 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting continued on Thursday (July 25) with ministers meeting for a retreat session and Laos’ foreign minister delivering opening remarks at a plenary amid shifts in global strategy and economics.

The foreign ministers are to discuss efforts to end a crippling conflict in military-run Myanmar that has morphed into a civil war that the United Nations says has displaced 2.6 million people.

The meeting of the foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will be followed by two summits in Laos on Saturday (July 27) set to address key global issues that will be attended by officials from the United States, European Union, Japan, China, Russia and more.
