Asian Games 2026: India’s September 20 schedule features teqball medals, cricket and hockey

India’s campaign at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will gather momentum on Sunday, September 20, with athletes competing across several disciplines, including teqball, shooting, cricket, hockey, badminton and table tennis.

While the official opening ceremony takes place on Saturday, competitions in some sports have already begun. On Sunday, India’s focus will be on several medal events, with Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza in contention for two bronze medals in teqball.

Quimcy will first compete in the women’s singles bronze-medal match against Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto. She will then team up with Mohamed Anas Imran Beg in the mixed doubles bronze-medal match against Vietnam’s Hoang Minh Tan Nguyen and Gia Nghi Trinh.

The Indian mixed doubles pair had lost to the Vietnamese combination in the quarterfinals and will now get another opportunity to finish on the podium.

Shooting Medal Events

India will also be in action in the women’s 10m air rifle competition.

Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod will compete in the event. The individual qualification is scheduled from 6:15 AM IST, followed by the women’s team medal event. The individual final is scheduled later in the morning.

Women’s Cricket Semi-Final

The Indian women’s cricket team will take on Bangladesh in the second semi-final of the women’s T20 competition at 10:30 AM.

India will be looking to progress to the final and continue its bid to defend the gold medal won at the 2022 Asian Games.

Hockey Campaign Begins

India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams will also begin their respective Asian Games campaigns on Sunday.

The Indian women’s team will face Uzbekistan in its Pool B match at 7:30 AM, while the men’s team will take on Indonesia in Pool A at 11:30 AM.

Other Indian Events

In table tennis, India’s women’s and men’s teams will be involved in group-stage matches. The women’s team will face Indonesia and Singapore, while the men’s team will play Indonesia and Iran.

The Indian badminton contingent will also begin its women’s team campaign, facing Kazakhstan in the first round.

In wushu, Aparna will compete in the women’s 52kg round of 16, while Vikrant Baliyan will compete in the men’s 75kg round of 16.

The men’s changquan final will also be a medal event on Sunday.

With medal events in shooting and teqball alongside the opening matches in cricket and hockey, September 20 promises a busy day of action for the Indian contingent at the Asian Games.
