At least 17 killed in Oman flash floods that cause chaos

At least 17 people were killed after flash floods swept through various parts of Oman on Sunday and Monday, the country’s National Committee for Emergency Management reported.

Amid the ongoing situation, the government of Oman suspended the work of employees and workers in the public and private sectors in five governorates, including Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, and Al Dakhiliyah, due to the weather conditions.

As a result of ‘unstable weather’, all schools across six governorates of Oman, including Muscat will be closed on Monday.

Search and rescue efforts were ongoing on Monday, as water flooded valleys and streets in the Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

Rainfall continued across parts of the country with varying intensity. The current weather conditions are expected to last until Wednesday.
