Bangladesh celebrates 10th International Day of Yoga

The High commission of India in Bangladesh organised a grand Yoga event at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium, Mirpur, in Dhaka on the occasion of International Yoga Day. Addressing hundreds of Yoga enthusiasts assembled at the venue on the occasion of International Yoga Day, acting High Commissioner Dr. Binoy George said that Yoga can serve as a unifying force, promoting physical and mental well-being among the people of India and Bangladesh.

Thirteen yoga associations including Bangladesh Yoga Association, Quantum Foundation, Joysan Yoga, Bangladesh Yoga Sangha and ITEC Yoga Alumni Association of Bangladesh took part in the main event. Yoga practitioners and enthusiasts gathered in large numbers at the venue to take part in the event. Bangladesh state Minister for Cultural Affairs Naheed Ezaher Khan, celebrities from the different fields and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The Yoga Day programme was also held at the Hamdard University of Dhaka and many other places in the city. Assistant High Commissions of India in Sylhet, Rajshahi Khulna and Chattogram also held Yoga related events over the week leading to the IYD on 21 June.

In fact, the events relating to International Yoga Day started taking place in Bangladesh more than three weeks back when Yoga organisations organised big and small events in the run up to the main event on 21st June.

There are many other Yoga Day related events scheduled to be held over the coming week across Bangladesh as people show great attraction to Yoga in this country.
