Bangladesh create history in Rawalpindi, record maiden Test win over Pakistan

Bangladesh made history on Sunday, clinching their first-ever Test win against Pakistan with a dominant 10-wicket win at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

After opting to field, Bangladesh’s bowlers made an immediate impact, reducing Pakistan to 16 for three early on the first day. However, the hosts recovered strongly thanks to Saud Shakeel’s gritty 141 and a resilient 171 from wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan. Pakistan declared their first innings at 448 for six.

Bangladesh responded emphatically with the bat, amassing 565 runs and securing a 117-run lead. Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim anchored the innings with a patient 191 off 341 balls, supported by crucial half-centuries from Shadman Islam (93) and Mehidy Hasan (77).

Pakistan’s second innings unraveled quickly on the fifth morning. Starting the day at 23 for 1, they collapsed to 146 all out, with Mehidy Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan sharing seven wickets between them.

Chasing a modest target of 30 runs, Bangladesh’s openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan reached the mark within seven overs, sealing a historic win.

This victory is Bangladesh’s first Test win over Pakistan in 14 attempts, breaking a streak of 12 losses and one draw since their first encounter in 2001.
