The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of Bangladesh has issued a clarification on Thursday regarding rumours circulating on social media since 25 August which claimed that Bangladesh had been exporting gas to India through pipelines.
According to these claims, the previous Awami League government used to export gas to India through pipelines which was allegedly halted by the current interim administration. A video with the same claim has also been circulated on various social media platforms in Bangladesh.
The Ministry has refuted these allegations, stating that no natural gas has ever been exported from Bangladesh to India via pipelines. The claim being circulated of stopping gas supply from Bangladesh to India is not correct, said the Ministry.
However, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is exported to India, its supply has not been disrupted, the Ministry clarified. The video being circulated is also two years old and of a different incident, it added.
The ministry emphasised that the viral demand to stop the gas line going to Seven Sisters in India is completely false and intentional.
