Marking Brazil National Day, Brazil’s Ambassador to India, on Friday Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nobrega, highlighted the strengthened partnership between Brazil and India, underscoring shared values, common goals, and expanding cooperation between the two nations.
In a speech in New Delhi, Nobrega emphasized that Brazil and India’s bond has deepened, especially in 2024, as both countries navigate a challenging international landscape. “Our long-standing friendship has gained in breadth and depth,” Nobrega stated, adding that Brazil and India continue to find “secure paths to social economic development” through renewed approaches to economic collaboration rooted in mutual trust.
Ambassador Nobrega credited the robust ties between the nations for enabling a smooth transition between India’s and Brazil’s G20 presidencies. He explained that continuity in leadership has maintained focus on increasing G20’s legitimacy and keeping developing countries’ priorities on the global agenda alongside those of developed nations. Under Brazil’s G20 presidency, two major task forces were launched—one addressing hunger and poverty and the other tackling climate change. Nobrega highlighted the ambitious goal of these initiatives to produce “tangible results on the ground for people.”
Further showcasing Brazil and India’s alignment, Nobrega pointed to a joint call for reforming international governance institutions, which was approved in an unprecedented G20 foreign ministers’ meeting at the United Nations, open to all UN members.
Beyond the multilateral sphere, Nobrega noted an expanded partnership in energy and food security, stating that over 40 Brazilian missions, both official and business-related, visited India this year alone to strengthen ties in these critical sectors. In a nod to India’s role, he lauded the progress on the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA), a platform initiated by India under its G20 leadership.
The GBA, which seeks to accelerate the global energy transition through biofuels, is poised to become an international organization, potentially transforming biofuels into a cornerstone for sustainable energy, particularly in developing nations.
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, present at the event, echoed the importance of the Brazil-India partnership. He noted that the two countries continue to work together in international frameworks, including the G4, IBAS, and BRICS, as they seek permanent seats on the UN Security Council. Puri also announced a forthcoming ministerial meeting on clean cooking fuels at India Energy Week, reflecting the countries’ shared commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
