“Breathing Threads” Fashion Show Showcases Indian Handlooms at Bharat Tex 2025

The Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, organised a captivating fashion event titled “Breathing Threads” to celebrate the artistry of Indian handlooms. Held at the Bharat Mandapam amphitheatre as part of Bharat Tex 2025, the event honoured the rich heritage of Indian craftsmanship by presenting handloom textiles in modern silhouettes.

The event was hosted in collaboration with Vaishali S Couture and Vaishali S Threadstories Private Limited, Mumbai, in coordination with the Handloom Export Promotion Council. Vaishali S Couture, a 24-year-old brand dedicated to reviving traditional hand weaving techniques, showcased the fusion of craftsmanship and innovation, bringing India’s hand-woven textiles to the global luxury fashion stage.

The show highlighted the sustainability and zero-waste strategy at the core of Indian handloom production, reflecting the eco-conscious practices of rural artisans. Fabrics woven in villages across five states—West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan—were draped on 20 models in 30 different looks. The weaves featured seven distinct techniques: Chanderi, Maheshwari, Jamdani, Khun, Benarasi, Kota Doria, and Murshidabad. Each fabric was adorned with unique textures and intricate cording, emphasizing the beauty and versatility of Indian handloom textiles.

“Breathing Threads” was not just a fashion show but a testament to the incredible skill, creativity, and dedication required to produce hand-woven fabrics. It demonstrated how Indian handlooms can be elevated to the ranks of global luxury fashion. The show mesmerized buyers from countries such as Australia, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kuwait, and Chile, as well as stakeholders from the Indian textile industry.

With the unwavering support of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, the event was a resounding success, showcasing the timeless elegance of Indian textiles to an international audience.
