Union Minister and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, JP Nadda, on Wednesday accused the Congress of acting as a “tool of external forces” during a heated session in the upper house, which ultimately led to its adjournment for the day.
Nadda alleged that the opposition’s no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar was a deliberate attempt to divert attention from important discussions on national sovereignty and security.
Referring to American billionaire philanthropist George Soros, Nadda said: “Our members (MPs) have been raising the issue of the connection between Sonia Gandhi and Soros. This is a question about the sovereignty of the country….Bringing a no-confidence motion against the Chair is a design to deviate the attention of the nation from the issue of the sovereignty of the country…It should be condemned by one and all. They have never respected the Chair…”
Earlier, as the session began, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the Congress of aligning with “anti-India forces” and undermining the dignity of the Rajya Sabha Chair. “The Vice President, a farmer’s son, has upheld the dignity of this House and the Constitution. Congress’s actions are disgraceful. If you cannot respect the Chair, you have no right to be members of this House,” Rijiju said.
Alleging ties between Soros and the Congress, Rijiju demanded that the party clarify its relationship with him. “Congress should reveal the nature of its relationship with Soros and apologize to the nation for aligning with those who oppose India’s sovereignty,” he said.
Persistent sloganeering and disruptions by the opposition forced the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha until December 12. The ongoing winter session of Parliament, which commenced on November 25, has been marred by frequent disruptions, preventing both Houses from functioning smoothly.
