Budget session of Parliament to begin on January 31 with President’s address

The budget session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on January 31, extending until April 4. The session will commence with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget on February 1. Following the initial proceedings, Parliament will observe an inter-session break starting February 14, with sittings resuming on March 10.

During the session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s Address. Additionally, the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is expected to submit its report during this session. The term of this committee was previously extended during the winter session.

The session also includes discussions surrounding the Joint Parliamentary Committee on implementing ‘One Nation, One Election.’ The committee was earlier directed to present its report in the Lok Sabha during the final week of the session. However, there is a demand to extend the term of the committee, which held its first meeting this month.

The winter session of Parliament concluded amid tension, as members of the BJP and the opposition filed police complaints against each other over alleged misbehavior during protests in the Parliament premises.
