The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the extension corridor of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation network from Noida Sector 142 to Botanical Garden, covering a length of 11.56 km with eight elevated stations.
With the operationalisation of this corridor, Noida and Greater Noida will have a total active metro rail network of 61.62 km, significantly strengthening urban mobility in the region.
The new corridor will improve public transport connectivity in key areas of Noida that currently lack efficient access. It will also provide seamless integration with high-demand routes, including interchange facilities at Botanical Garden with the Blue Line and Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro.
The extension is expected to link major commercial centres such as Advant Business Park (Sector 142), Skymark One Mall (Sector 98) and Mall of Noida (Sector 93). It will also connect prominent corporate and IT hubs including Microsoft (Sector 145), TCS (Sector 157), Infosys and Adobe (Sector 132), Cognizant (Sector 135), Oracle (Sector 127) and Havells (Sector 126).
Key educational institutions such as Amity University (Sector 125), Panchsheel Balak Inter College (Sector 91) and Mahamaya Balika Inter College (Sector 44), along with major healthcare facilities like Max Super Specialty Hospital (Sector 128), will benefit from improved metro access. Tourist and recreational spots including the Botanical Garden and Sector 93 Park will also be better connected.
The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs said the extension is expected to ease traffic congestion by offering an efficient alternative to road transport. Reduced vehicular traffic is likely to result in smoother movement, shorter travel times and enhanced road safety.
From an environmental perspective, the expanded metro network is projected to help lower carbon emissions by reducing reliance on fossil fuel-based transport.
The Ministry said improved connectivity to business districts and transport hubs – including Delhi’s airport, railway stations and major bus depots – will enhance productivity and stimulate economic activity. Areas around the new metro stations are expected to witness increased commercial development and investment.
The project is also expected to promote equitable access to public transportation, benefiting diverse socio-economic groups and improving overall quality of life by reducing commute times and enhancing access to education, healthcare and employment opportunities.
The extension corridor is being seen as a transformative step in Noida’s infrastructure development, laying the foundation for sustainable urban growth and future expansion of the metro network.
