Cabinet approves 78-Day Productivity Linked Bonus for over 11.72 lakh railway employees

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for 78 days to more than 11.72 lakh railway employees. The total payout, amounting to ₹2,028.57 crore, will benefit a wide range of non-gazetted railway staff, including track maintainers, loco pilots, station masters, and other Group C employees.

The bonus recognizes the exceptional performance of railway employees during the 2023-24 financial year. According to the Cabinet’s statement, the PLB serves as an incentive for workers to continue striving for better operational efficiency and improvements within the Railways. Eligible employees will receive a maximum bonus of ₹17,951, typically distributed ahead of the Durga Puja and Dussehra holidays.

The financial year 2023-24 saw record achievements by the Railways, including the transportation of 1,588 million tonnes of cargo and approximately 6.7 billion passengers. The government credited the improvement in infrastructure, efficiency in operations, and advanced technology as key contributors to this success.

The PLB aims to further motivate railway staff and recognize their role in enhancing the overall performance of the national transporter.
