CARI, Kolkata, and Jadavpur University sign MoU for Research on Ayurvedic formulation Vidangadi Lauham in Diabetes Management

In a significant collaboration aimed at advancing research in diabetes management through Ayurveda, the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Kolkata, under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the School of Natural Product Studies (SNPS), Jadavpur University on Monday.

The MoU, formalized at CARI, Kolkata, marks the launch of a joint research project titled, “Evaluation of Vidangadi Lauham, a Classical Ayurvedic Formulation in the Management of Diabetes in Experimental Animals.”

The partnership will focus on evaluating the therapeutic potential of Vidangadi Lauham, a traditional Ayurvedic formulation, in diabetes management. This research aims to establish a robust scientific foundation for the formulation’s efficacy by conducting in-depth biophysical characterization and biological analysis of its active medicinal components. The initiative is expected to contribute to the preservation and promotion of India’s rich medicinal plant heritage, while also supporting the development of high-quality, safe, and effective Ayurvedic solutions for diabetes and related complications.

According to the Ministry of Ayush, this research has the potential to validate the benefits of Ayurvedic formulations on a global scale, positioning them as natural health-promoting agents with minimal side effects. Given the rising global incidence of diabetes, this initiative could offer a promising alternative to managing the disease and improving overall public health.

The MoU was signed in the presence of key officials from both institutions, including Dr. G. Babu, Director of CARI, Kolkata, and Dr. Anupam Mangal, Assistant Director (Pharmacognosy), along with other dignitaries.

The collaborative project highlights the growing emphasis on integrating traditional knowledge with modern scientific research to address contemporary health challenges.
