CDS General Anil Chauhan embarks on crucial Japan visit to elevate defence ties

During his visit, General Anil Chauhan is slated to engage with senior military leadership in Japan, including meetings with Minister of Defence, Minoru Kihara and Chief of Staff, Joint Staff, Japan Self-Defence Forces General Yoshida Yoshihide. 

He will hold discussions with Commissioner of Acquisition Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA)Fukasawa Masaki and Vice President of National Institute of Defence Studies (NIDS), Japan Major General Adachi Yoshiki.

The itinerary includes interactions with the Faculty and Research Scholars at NIDS, visits to various defence formations and establishments, and a focus on fostering mutual understanding. The discussions are set to cover a range of topics, including regional security, bilateral defence cooperation, and collaboration in the field of defence equipment and technology.

General Anil Chauhan is scheduled to visit units of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) and engage with Commander in Chief Self Defence Fleet at Funakoshi JMSDF Base. As a gesture of respect, he will also visit the Hiroshima Peace Park, laying a wreath in remembrance of the victims of Hiroshima. Additionally, he plans to pay special tributes at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Hiroshima, emphasizing the commitment to enhancing peace and tranquillity in the region.

The visit takes place against the backdrop of the 71st anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Japan in 2023, underscoring the enduring camaraderie that has developed over the past seven decades. This diplomatic mission is poised to further boost bilateral cooperation, particularly in the realm of defence collaboration, demonstrating the commitment of both nations to strengthening their special Strategic and Global Partnership.

The visit is expected to contribute significantly to the deepening of ties and the promotion of regional stability.  This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen the special Strategic and Global Partnership.
