Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has strongly condemned the use of undignified and derogatory remarks directed at women leaders during the ongoing election campaign in Maharashtra, urging officials to take firm and prompt action against such behavior.
During a review meeting with District Election Officers, Police Commissioners, SPs, Municipal Commissioners, and Returning Officers, Kumar expressed serious concern over the use of language that undermines the dignity and respect of women. He stressed that political parties and candidates must avoid actions or statements that could be seen as offensive to the honor of women.
Sources revealed that Kumar emphasized that no criticism should target private aspects of the lives of leaders or workers, especially those unrelated to public activities. He added that personal attacks intended to demean opponents should not be part of political rhetoric.
The Chief Election Commissioner directed officials to ensure that any derogatory comments or remarks by candidates or political leaders that violate the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and insult the dignity of women are dealt with through timely and decisive action.
