Census 2027: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla completes digital self-enumeration

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday participated in the first phase of Census 2027 by completing his self-enumeration at his official residence in New Delhi.

Describing the exercise as a milestone in governance, LS Speaker Birla said the national census heralds a “new era,” with the entire process being conducted digitally for the first time in the country’s history. He noted that the system allows citizens to independently record their household details through a platform designed to be secure, accurate and user-friendly.

Emphasising the importance of the initiative, the Speaker said the shift to digital enumeration reflects India’s technological progress and would help generate more precise and reliable data, better aligned with ground realities.

Reiterating the vision of “Jan Ganana se Jan Kalyan” (Census for Public Welfare), LS Speaker Birla urged citizens across the country to actively participate in the exercise. He encouraged people not only to complete their own enumeration but also to motivate others, stating that collective participation would contribute to building a “strong and prosperous India.”

Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India Mritunjay Kumar Narayan was present during the process to facilitate the self-enumeration.

The Census 2027 exercise, being conducted in phases, introduces digital self-enumeration as a key feature, enabling citizens to directly contribute to one of the country’s most important data-gathering initiatives.
