Centenary celebrations of legendary great showman Raj Kapoor begin in Mumbai

Bollywood is set to commemorate the birth centenary of one of its most iconic figures—director, producer, and actor Raj Kapoor—on December 14 in Mumbai.

To honor this milestone, RK Films, in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) and the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), is hosting a three-day retrospective from December 13 to 15, showcasing Raj Kapoor’s most celebrated works.

As part of the celebrations, the Kapoor family had a special and heartwarming meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, paying tribute to Raj Kapoor’s unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema and his enduring legacy.

During the meeting, PM Modi praised the centenary celebrations as a testament to Indian cinema’s rich history and acknowledged Raj Kapoor’s immense influence, noting that his work continues to resonate within the film industry today.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Raj Kapoor’s grandson, Armaan Jain, for producing a film that explores the life and legacy of his legendary grandfather, offering a personal glimpse into his cinematic journey.

Ranbir Kapoor, another of Raj Kapoor’s grandsons, informed PM Modi that the family has restored 10 of Raj Kapoor’s classic films, enhancing both their audio and visual quality. These restored versions are set to be screened in 160 theaters across 40 cities in India, with the premiere taking place on December 13 in Mumbai, attended by the entire film industry.

Some of Raj Kapoor’s most iconic films, such as Barsaat, Awara, Shree 420, Sangam, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, and Satyam Shivam Sundaram, remain timeless classics that continue to shape the legacy of Indian cinema.
