The Central government, in collaboration with the Tripura state government, has signed a significant peace agreement with the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF). The Memorandum of Settlement was formalized on Wednesday in New Delhi, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha among the dignitaries present.
Speaking at the event, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the progress made in the northeastern region under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He emphasized that the peace agreement marked the end of a 35-year-long conflict, as the armed groups have now pledged to renounce violence and contribute to Tripura’s development.
“This is a moment of great joy for all of us,” Shah said. “Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, his focus on peace and dialogue has led to the development of the Northeast. With this agreement, over 300 armed cadres will integrate into the mainstream, signifying a new era of peace and growth for Tripura.”
Shah also noted the bridging of physical and emotional distances between the Northeast and Delhi, achieved through improved infrastructure and connectivity. “The distance between the people of the Northeast and Delhi has been significantly reduced, not only through enhanced road, rail, and air links but also by fostering closer ties between communities,” he added.
This agreement is the 12th peace pact in the Northeast and the third related to Tripura, with over 10,000 insurgents having surrendered and joined the mainstream under similar accords.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha praised Amit Shah’s role in fostering peace and prosperity in the region. He acknowledged the importance of the peace agreements signed over the past decade, noting that this is the third accord specifically benefiting Tripura.
“It is a matter of great satisfaction that the members of NLFT and ATTF have decided to join the mainstream, contributing to the development journey led by our Prime Minister,” Saha said.
