Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched a 20-day city-wide cleanliness campaign, promising a “visible transformation” across Delhi starting Friday. Under the campaign, titled Badal Rahi Hai Dilli (Delhi is Changing), officials will be held personally accountable for the upkeep of streets, parks, footpaths, and public spaces.
Speaking at the launch, CM Gupta said the initiative will mark a first for the city, with cleaning operations scheduled to take place twice a day—once at 8 a.m. and again in the evening.
She emphasised that coordinated efforts will help resolve long-standing challenges posed by the involvement of multiple civic agencies. “Thanks to the people, we have a triple-engine government in Delhi. This campaign is a result of every citizen’s vote, and our goal is to bring about a noticeable change starting tomorrow,” she stated.
Gupta said that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will oversee the removal of construction waste and garbage, with senior officials personally supervising the drive.
“The vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will now be visible in every corner of the city. Swachh Delhi is our mission, and we are moving decisively in that direction,” she said.
The Chief Minister also instructed District Magistrates to take full responsibility for cleanliness in their respective areas. “All public spaces must be thoroughly cleaned. Other officials will also be held accountable,” she added.
On public safety and encroachments, Gupta said that Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) will be answerable in case of negligence or encroachment on pavements and public areas.
“The entire administration is responsible for ensuring there are no dark spots in the city and that CCTV cameras are fully functional,” she said.
Calling for the removal of years of accumulated waste and neglect, Gupta noted that citizens have already begun to acknowledge the change. “People are commenting on social media that Delhi is changing—and we are committed to making that change real and lasting.”
