Communications Minister Inaugurates RSS Media Museum, Calls for Accountability in Journalism

Inaugurating the RSS Media Museum established at the Central Office of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) today, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung urged journalists to play constructive roles to make the government answerable to the general public.

He expressed concern over what he called free journalism becoming confined to person-centred criticism in recent times as against its universal principles of truthfulness, factuality and fairness. He expressed the belief that the Media Museum set up by RSS would be significantly helpful in studying the evolution of the communications sector and described it as a ‘great work’ for the new generation. Historic articles used by RSS since its inception have been kept in the museum. RSS Executive Chairman Dharmendra Jha expressed the conviction that the museum will help the new generation in their study and research of the evolution of media in Nepal. 46 different articles used by RSS over the last 63 years have been kept on display in the museum. RSS Board Member Shankar Kharel said the museum will support the study and research of media development in Nepal.
