Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that the nation has taken a pledge to wipe out Naxalism from India by the end of March 2026.
Addressing a gathering of CRPF personnel during the 86th Raising Day parade of the force in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, he emphasised that the CRPF has rendered unparalleled service to the nation.
“With more than 400 forward-operating bases established, Naxal-related violence has been curtailed by a remarkable 70 per cent. Whenever the Naxalites hear of the CRPF advancing, terror spreads through their ranks like wildfire,” the home minister said.
“Today, having confined these nefarious elements to just four districts, no one can truly capture the valour and fortitude of this force, whose origins date back to 1939,” Shah added.
“As the nation strides toward global prominence by 2047, the contributions of the CRPF and the sacrifices of its families remain deeply etched in our collective aspirations. When the golden pages of history are written, the bravery and heroism of our soldiers will shine forever, the home minister stressed.
Shah also announced plans to set up a new COBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) battalion in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the foresight of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who not only presented the CRPF with its flag but also laid down its guiding principles.
Recalling historical milestones, Shah mentioned that during the 1965 confrontation with Pakistan in the Rann of Kachchh, the CRPF responded valiantly. Similarly, the force played a crucial role in thwarting the attacks on the Indian Parliament and in protecting the Ram Janmabhoomi site.
“The CRPF has left no stone unturned in safeguarding India’s unity and sovereignty,” Shah said.
He added that wherever unrest arises across the nation, the presence of the CRPF instils unwavering confidence. “Their arrival signifies certain triumph,” he emphasized.
Reflecting on the sacrifices made since the CRPF’s inception, Shah noted that 2,264 brave personnel have laid down their lives in service to the country. He reassured the families of the fallen heroes that their role in India’s journey to greatness by 2047 will never be forgotten. “The nation beams with pride for the CRPF,” he affirmed.
Prior to his address, Shah paid homage to fallen heroes at the memorial. Riding in an open jeep, he proceeded to inspect the parade.
Eight contingents of the CRPF showcased their discipline and strength, and the Home Minister accepted their salute with dignity. He also conferred medals of bravery on select CRPF personnel, honouring their exceptional courage.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav was also present to support the event.
CRPF Day is commemorated each year on March 19, marking the day in 1950 when Sardar Patel, then Home Minister, ceremonially presented the national flag to the force.
Neemuch holds historical significance, as it was here on July 27, 1939—during British rule—that the Crown Representative Police was founded. After Independence, this entity was renamed the Central Reserve Police Force by Sardar Patel on December 28, 1949.
