Cummins ruled out again as Australia stick with same squad for day-night Ashes Test

Pat Cummins will miss a second straight match after Australia named an unchanged 14-man squad for the day-night Ashes Test at the Gabba starting December 4.

Usman Khawaja has been included despite back spasms that prevented him from batting in the second innings in Perth. Cummins, sidelined from the series opener with a back injury, has been given an additional two weeks to recover fully. The 32-year-old, in the final phase of rehabilitation from lumbar stress, will still travel with the squad to Brisbane.

Doggett is expected to hold his place in Australia’s attack, having taken five wickets in the first Test, likely paired with Starc and Boland. Cummins completed an intensive net session at the SCG on Friday, bowling for more than an hour with the pink ball, while Hazlewood, who missed the Perth Test with a hamstring injury, also took part in the nets.

Australia will assemble in Brisbane on Sunday, while England, who arrived on Thursday, will begin training at the Gabba on Sunday afternoon before a session under lights on Monday.

Australia squad: Steve Smith (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster.
