₹445 Crore Deal for Tunguska Air Defence System
A contract worth ₹445 crore has been signed with Rosoboronexport for the procurement of Tunguska Air Defence Missile Systems for the Indian Army.
The system is designed to bolster India’s multi-layered air defence network, providing protection against a range of aerial threats, including aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles. The deal is also expected to further strengthen the long-standing strategic defence partnership between India and Russia.
₹413 Crore Contract for P-8I Aircraft Maintenance
In a separate agreement, the ministry signed a ₹413 crore contract with Boeing India Defense Private Limited for the Depot-Level Inspection of P-8I Long-Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft operated by the Indian Navy.
The contract, awarded under the “Buy Indian” category with 100% indigenous content, will enable maintenance of the P-8I fleet at in-country Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities.
Boost to Self-Reliance in Defence
The Ministry said the move aligns with the government’s push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the Make in India programme, aimed at enhancing domestic capabilities in defence production and maintenance.
