Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his family at Blair House in Washington DC on Thursday, where they discussed strengthening collaboration between Indian and US entities in innovation, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development.
Musk, who also serves as the Head of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was accompanied by three of his children during the meeting. PM Modi shared his delight at meeting Musk’s family, posting on X: “It was also a delight to meet Mr. @elonmusk’s family and to talk about a wide range of subjects!”
The Prime Minister interacted warmly with Musk’s children and highlighted India’s commitment to ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’ during their discussions. “Had a very good meeting with @elonmusk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,’” PM Modi posted on X.
According to a release from the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, and good governance. Musk’s visit with his family added a personal touch to the high-profile meeting.
The meeting took place ahead of PM Modi’s scheduled talks with US President Donald Trump, marking a significant step in bolstering the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
Earlier, US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz also called on PM Modi to discuss enhancing strategic ties, including defence industrial cooperation, civil nuclear energy with a focus on small modular reactors, and counterterrorism efforts. They also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
This visit marks PM Modi’s first trip to the United States since President Trump assumed office for a second term.
