The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), aiming to foster innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship in India’s clean energy and manufacturing sectors.
This two-year collaboration, which includes a provision for extension, is designed to support early-stage climate-tech startups by providing access to funding, mentorship, pilot opportunities, and market linkages. The initiative is aligned with India’s net-zero ambitions and seeks to create a robust pipeline of scalable and investable ventures in the climate-tech space.
Under the partnership, GEAPP will launch the Energy Transitions Innovation Challenge (ENTICE), a competitive platform offering up to $500,000 in rewards for breakthrough climate solutions. Investment support for selected startups will be facilitated through partners such as Spectrum Impact and Avana Capital. DPIIT will integrate the program with the Startup India network and anchor outreach efforts through major government schemes.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sanjiv, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, said that India’s climate leadership depended on a strong foundation of entrepreneurship. He added that the partnership would unlock opportunities for clean energy startups to scale up technologies that are essential to achieving the country’s long-term net-zero targets.
Saurabh Kumar, Vice President – India, GEAPP, termed the collaboration a pivotal step toward enabling systemic change. He emphasized that GEAPP’s global expertise, combined with DPIIT’s institutional backing and the reach of the Startup India network, would create a fertile ground for clean energy innovation in India.
