In a major crackdown on Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) operations, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) dismantled seven modules across Maharashtra, Haryana, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh, resulting in the arrest of nine individuals. The operation, conducted on Thursday, involved simultaneous searches at 11 locations, targeting facilities engaged in printing FICN using imported security paper, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The raids in Maharashtra uncovered sophisticated setups in Vikhroli West, Sangamner, and Kolhapur districts, leading to the seizure of fake currency, machinery, and tools, including laptops, printers, and security paper with watermarks. Three arrests were made in the state. Further investigations in Kolhapur helped track another module in Belgaum, Karnataka, leading to three more arrests.
Additional raids in Rohtak (Haryana), Khagaria (Bihar), and West Godavari (Andhra Pradesh) revealed more security paper importers, with laptops, printers, and restricted paper seized. The accused were handed over to the police, with further investigations underway under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This follows DRI’s earlier operations on February 8-9, where two people were arrested for importing high-quality security paper, and two facilities in Thane and Bhiwani were busted, leading to further arrests. The DRI continues its efforts to combat FICN operations across the country.
