‘Dunki’ Box Office Day 1: Shah Rukh Khan sees his lowest opening this year

Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ lagged far behind his 2023 releases ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’ in its Day 1 box office earnings, accumulating Rs 30 crore at the domestic box office, according to statistics.

The Bollywood star’s last release, Jawan, collected Rs 75 crore on Day 1, while Pathaan, which hit theatres in Janurary 2023, collected Rs 57 crore nett on its opening day.

Dunki, which marks the first collaboration between Shah Rukh and 3 Idiots director Rajkumar Hirani, has emerged as the seventh-highest opener among Hindi films in 2023. Besides Jawan and Pathaan, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal (Rs 54.75 crore nett), Salman Khan-starrer Tiger 3 (Rs 43.1 crore nett), Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 (Rs 40 crore nett) and Prabhas’ Adipurush (Rs 37.25 crore nett) have Day 1 earnings higher than the Hirani directorial.

Dunki is likely to face tough competition from Prabhas’ action thriller Salaar, which hit theatres on Friday. The Prashanth Neel-helmed actioner has sold over 2.2 million tickets in advance bookings, raking in Rs 48.94 crore gross in all languages.

The movie revolves around four friends from Punjab, who undertake a perilous journey to England via a donkey route.

Apart from Shah Rukh, the film also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover.
