External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with his Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa’ar on Thursday to discuss the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its wider repercussions.
Following the call, Jaishankar said in a post on X, “Had a telecon with FM Gideon Saar of Israel this evening. Exchanged views on the ongoing West Asia conflict and its many repercussions.”
The conversation comes amid heightened tensions in the region following strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28, which reportedly killed Ali Khamenei and several senior military officials. In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile attacks targeting US and Israeli assets, as well as allied locations across the region.
Jaishankar has also been in touch with his counterparts from several countries, including Russia, France, Oman, and Iran, as India maintains close coordination with key partners amid the evolving security situation.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar met Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, to review the latest developments in West Asia. He also thanked the UAE government for its support and care for the Indian community in the country.
“Pleased to meet UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy this afternoon. Thanked the UAE Government for taking care of the Indian community. Discussed the latest developments pertaining to the conflict in West Asia,” Jaishankar said.
On March 16, the External Affairs Minister met Ursula von der Leyen in Belgium, where discussions covered developments in West Asia as well as the situation in Ukraine.
“A pleasure to call on European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen this afternoon. Her highly successful State Visit to India this January marks a turning point in our ties. We are following up vigorously on it. Appreciate her insights on contemporary global developments,” Jaishankar posted after the meeting.
India has been actively engaging with global partners as it closely monitors the situation in West Asia, emphasising dialogue, diplomacy, and regional stability.
