EAM Jaishankar meets delegates on the sidelines of UNGA 79

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who recently addressed the second G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting under Brazil’s G20 Presidency, engaged in various bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.
 
In a post shared on X, Jaishankar mentioned his meeting with Swiss Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis, stating, “Nice to see Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis of Switzerland at UNGA 79.”
 
The External Affairs Minister also met South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul. Reflecting on their conversation, Jaishankar posted, “An early morning interaction with RoK FM Cho Tae-yul on the sidelines of UNGA 79.”
 
During the event, Jaishankar held discussions with Slovakian Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar and had an engaging conversation with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed. Expressing his thoughts on the interaction, he said, “Always nice to meet UN DSG Amina J Mohammed.”
 
Jaishankar met with the Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as well as Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
 
In another significant engagement, Jaishankar sat down with Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Fiqi, offering his congratulations to Somalia on its recent election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2025-26 term. He remarked, “Glad to meet FM Ahmed Fiqi of Somalia at UNGA 79 sidelines. Congratulated him on Somalia entering the UNSC as non-permanent member for 2025-26. Discussed enhancing our cooperation in health, education, training and capacity building.”
 
In his G20 address, Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s strong support for policies that promote trade and investment, encouraging the growth of all nations in an interconnected global landscape.
