External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday during his official visit to the United Kingdom, discussing ways to enhance economic cooperation and deepen people-to-people ties. The EAM also met UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy and other senior leaders.
In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote, “Delighted to call on Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer at @10DowningStreet today. Conveyed the warm greetings of PM @narendramodi. Discussed taking forward our bilateral economic cooperation and enhancing people-to-people exchanges. PM Starmer also shared the UK’s perspective on the Ukraine conflict.”
In another post, Jaishankar shared details of his meeting with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, thanking him for the warm welcome and expressing optimism about their discussions. “Thank you, FS @DavidLammy, for this extremely warm welcome at the Chevening House. Look forward to our discussions,” he said.
Earlier, Jaishankar held meetings with the UK Home Secretary and the Secretary of State for Business and Trade.
During his meeting with Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, Jaishankar said that they discussed key areas such as the movement of talent and joint efforts by India and the UK to combat trafficking and extremism.
In his meeting with Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds, Jaishankar highlighted discussions on the progress of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between India and the UK.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, EAM Jaishankar is on an official visit to the United Kingdom and Ireland until March 9.
In Ireland, Jaishankar will meet his Irish counterpart Simon Harris, along with other dignitaries and members of the Indian community. His visit to Ireland is scheduled for March 6 and 7.
