Across the globe, heavy snowfall is causing disruptions in various regions. Parts of northwestern Europe are struggling to cope with the repercussions of the latest Atlantic storms, bringing substantial rain or snow.
In Sweden, the Arctic village of Kvikkjokk recorded the country's lowest temperature in 25 years at -43.6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Norway experienced heavy snowfall in the southern town of Kristiansand, leading to the closure of all schools and the cancellation of public buses.
Life-disrupting floods:
Flood-related challenges have emerged in different parts of Europe. Storm Henk unleashed its fury on Britain, Ireland, and the Netherlands, causing power outages, transportation disruptions, and property damage. Drone footage revealed flooding on the outskirts of Northampton in the English Midlands.
In northern France, the town of Arques in the Pas de Calais department faced evacuation efforts by rescue crews due to inundated homes. The region experienced its second round of flooding in two months after heavy rainfall. Floodwaters submerged streets and residences following days of persistent rain. According to Meteo France, the department is expected to endure continuous rainfall until Friday.
Northern Germany is grappling with flooding, prompting rescue workers to erect temporary dams using large water-filled containers and metal sheets. Meteorologists have issued warnings of additional rain in the coming days. The western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the eastern states of Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt are also dealing with flooding resulting from heavy rainfall in those areas. Meteorological forecasts indicate that more rain from western France's Brittany region will reach northern Germany by Friday.
