External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar landed in Tokyo on Sunday for a two-day visit to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting, according to official sources.
Upon arrival, Jaishankar was greeted by Sibi George, India’s Ambassador to Japan and the Republic of Marshall Islands. The Indian embassy in Japan confirmed the minister’s arrival via social media.
The Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting, scheduled for July 29, will bring together top diplomats from Australia, India, Japan, and the United States. This gathering follows the leaders’ summit held in Hiroshima earlier this year and a subsequent follow-up meeting in New York.
Speaking at a press briefing last Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the importance of the upcoming meeting. “It’s a valuable occasion for them to take forward the Quad agenda and take stock of all that has been achieved so far,” Jaiswal stated.
The Quad, a diplomatic partnership between the four nations, is committed to supporting an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. This meeting is expected to build on previous discussions and further strengthen cooperation among the member countries.
