Fijian Prime Minister Rabuka to meet PM Modi today during first official visit to India

Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday as part of his first three-day official visit to India.

Rabuka is also scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The Fijian leader arrived in the capital on Sunday with his spouse Sulueti Rabuka and a high-level delegation, including Health and Medical Services Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu and senior government officials.

During his stay, Rabuka will deliver a lecture titled “Ocean of Peace” at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), focusing on regional stability, India–Pacific engagement, and the importance of maritime cooperation.

Rabuka’s visit underscores the strengthening of diplomatic ties between India and Fiji, building on President Droupadi Murmu’s state visit to Suva in August 2024, where she addressed the Fijian Parliament and highlighted the ‘close ties’ and ‘shared values’ between the two nations.

Momentum in bilateral relations has also been reinforced by the 6th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Suva in July 2025.

The talks, led by MEA Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra and Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Raijeli Taga, reviewed cooperation in areas including health, education, capacity building, trade and investment, agriculture, renewable energy, climate change, and cultural exchanges.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expand cooperation and maintain regular high-level exchanges.
