Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday said her government has taken concrete measures to address waterlogging and pollution in the national capital, assuring that the city is better prepared for both flooding during rains and air quality challenges in winter.
Speaking at the Aadhar Infra Confluence 2025, Gupta said drainage systems across Delhi have been cleaned, which has helped reduce waterlogging. She noted that flooding this monsoon has been limited to the Yamuna floodplain due to timely preparations.
“We are working on all points where heavy rains earlier caused waterlogging. With the drainage systems cleaned, the problem has been largely resolved. The flood-like situation this year is confined to the Yamuna floodplain areas, and we are also working on solutions for residents living there,” she said.
On preparations to combat pollution, Gupta said over 1,000 water sprinklers have been deployed, and anti-smoke guns have been installed on high-rise buildings and construction sites. “With winter approaching, the Delhi government is well prepared so that people do not suffer from air pollution,” she added.
The Chief Minister also highlighted steps to improve transport and healthcare. She said more electric buses have been added under the Devi Scheme, while Aarogya Mandir health centres are now fully equipped with doctors, paramedical staff, diagnostic facilities, and medicines.
Gupta took a swipe at the previous state government, saying it “failed to fulfil its responsibilities” towards Delhi residents.
