Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrives in Sri Lanka to hold talks with top leadership

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Colombo on Wednesday for a day-long visit to Sri Lanka, during which he is scheduled to hold meetings with the country’s top leadership and review ongoing bilateral cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

During his visit, Misri is scheduled to meet Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, among other senior leaders.

The High Commission of India in Colombo said the visit would build on regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and provide momentum to key initiatives under the India-Sri Lanka partnership.

“Just Arrived: Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri arrived in Colombo for a one-day visit to Sri Lanka. During his visit, he will call on H.E. The President of Sri Lanka, Hon’ble Prime Minister, and Hon’ble Foreign Minister, among others,” the mission said in a post on X.

The visit comes amid continued diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Colombo, with both sides focusing on areas such as economic cooperation, development partnership, connectivity and regional issues.

Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India Mahishini Colonne said Misri’s visit reflected the importance of sustained high-level dialogue between the two countries and expressed hope that it would further advance bilateral cooperation.

The Sri Lanka visit follows Misri’s recent diplomatic engagements in Bhutan and China as part of India’s broader neighbourhood outreach.
