GeM crosses ₹15 lakh crore milestone in cumulative GMV since launch

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has achieved a milestone by surpassing ₹15 lakh crore in cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) since its inception in 2016. The development highlights the growing trust of buyers and sellers across India in GeM’s vision of creating a transparent, efficient and inclusive public procurement ecosystem.

Over the past nine years, GeM has evolved into a robust digital platform, connecting government buyers with a wide range of sellers, including Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), startups, women-led businesses, SC/ST enterprises and self-help groups (SHGs). This transformation has enabled public procurement to become more transparent, accountable and technology-driven.

Commenting on the achievement, GeM CEO Mihir Kumar said, “Crossing the ₹15 lakh crore GMV milestone is a testimony to the trust our stakeholders have placed in GeM. This success belongs to the lakhs of sellers and buyers who have transformed the way public procurement is carried out in India. Our focus will continue to be on deepening inclusivity, simplifying processes and fostering innovation so that opportunities reach every corner of the country. Together, we are building a transparent, accountable and digitally empowered procurement ecosystem aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat.”

GeM’s journey has been marked by its role in expanding access to government procurement for sellers across diverse sectors while strengthening the participation of MSEs, women entrepreneurs and startups. By simplifying processes and reducing entry barriers, it has ensured that procurement opportunities reach the last mile, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.

Each transaction on GeM not only signifies procurement but also represents efficiency, empowerment and accountability. Its contribution aligns with the government’s broader goals under Digital India and the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Looking ahead, GeM aims to deepen inclusivity, drive innovation and sustain efficiency in order to further transform public procurement, making it more accessible and equitable for stakeholders across the country.
