The Government e Marketplace (GeM) has achieved a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of ₹18.4 lakh crore, including surpassing ₹5 lakh crore in procurement during the financial year 2025–26, marking a significant milestone in India’s digital governance journey.
The platform has emerged as a key enabler of transparent, efficient, and inclusive public procurement, facilitating seamless transactions between government buyers and sellers across the country. Officials said the milestone reflects growing trust among stakeholders in a technology-driven procurement ecosystem.
Addressing the media, GeM CEO Mihir Kumar said the achievement underscores the confidence of buyers, sellers, and institutions in a transparent and efficient system that promotes accountability in public spending.
Strong Participation from Small Businesses and Startups
GeM’s inclusive approach has significantly expanded opportunities for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), women-led businesses, SC/ST entrepreneurs, and startups. During FY 2025–26, MSEs accounted for 68% of total orders and contributed 47.1% of the total GMV.
More than 11 lakh MSEs are currently registered on the platform, collectively securing over 51 lakh orders worth ₹2.36 lakh crore during the year – an increase of over 20% compared to the previous fiscal.
Women-led enterprises have also seen strong growth, with over 2.1 lakh such MSEs receiving orders worth more than ₹28,000 crore, registering nearly 28% growth. Similarly, SC/ST enterprises secured orders exceeding ₹6,000 crore, while startups recorded orders worth over ₹19,000 crore, reflecting a robust 36% growth.
Technology Driving Transparency and Efficiency
Technology continues to be at the core of GeM’s operations. The platform uses Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and advanced analytics to improve efficiency, ensure transparency, and detect irregularities in procurement processes.
Key features include machine learning-based catalogue validation, pre-sanity checks to minimise errors, and real-time analytics for monitoring transactions. Advanced tools also help identify abnormal pricing patterns, potential collusion, and anomalies in bidding processes, enhancing trust and integrity in the system.
System-driven mechanisms such as Bid Health Scores further support better decision-making and ensure a fair procurement environment.
Growing Adoption Across States
While GeM has seen widespread adoption among Central Ministries, Departments, and Central Public Sector Enterprises, participation from States and Union Territories is also rising steadily. Procurement by States grew by 38.3% in FY 2025–26, indicating increasing confidence in the platform.
The Ministry of Commerce & Industry noted that the expanding footprint of GeM across states is helping deepen access to public procurement, enabling businesses from diverse regions to participate in government supply chains.
Boost to Digital Governance
The continued growth of GeM highlights its role as a cornerstone of India’s digital public infrastructure, promoting transparency, inclusivity, and efficiency in public procurement.
With sustained adoption and technological advancements, the platform is expected to play an even greater role in strengthening the country’s public economy and supporting equitable growth across sectors.
